What Debian brings to your VPS
A community distribution with a life cycle known in advance. You run the system, we provide the server.
Five years of life per release
Each stable release gets three years of full support, then two years of Debian LTS, following the cycle published on debian.org.
Dedicated security teams
Fixes are prepared by the Debian Security team during full support, then by the Debian LTS team.
69,830 packages in Debian 13
Including over 14,100 new ones, installed and updated with apt; unattended-upgrades can apply security fixes on its own.
An up-to-date base with Debian 13
Linux kernel 6.12 LTS, PHP 8.4, PostgreSQL 17, MariaDB 11.8, Python 3.13, nginx 1.26, OpenSSH 10.0 and systemd 257, according to the release announcement.
Free and community-driven
Debian is developed by the Debian Project, a community of volunteers, and its main archive only ships free software.
In-place upgrades
You move from one stable release to the next with apt, without reinstalling, by following the release notes. Take a snapshot first.

Debian VPS FAQ
What to know before you order, and right after.
Which Debian release should I choose?
Debian 13 "trixie" for a new server: it is the current stable release, followed by Debian LTS until 30 June 2030. Debian 12 "bookworm" is now covered by Debian LTS until 30 June 2028. Debian 11 has received no Debian LTS fixes since 31 August 2026: only pick it if some software requires it.
Debian or Ubuntu?
Both are available on every plan. Debian is developed by a community, with five years of life per release. Ubuntu, published by Canonical, ships an LTS every two years with five years of standard maintenance. With us, HestiaCP is installed on Debian 13, and Easypanel, Dokploy, Plesk and Cloudron on Ubuntu 26.04.
Do I have to pay for Debian?
No. Debian is free, with no licence to pay: the prices shown are for the VPS.
What is the minimum configuration?
Command-line Debian runs on every plan, from 2 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM: your services decide the size. HestiaCP needs 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of disk, One Click Apps 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk.
How do I connect to the server?
If you picked an SSH key at checkout, connect straight away with ssh root@your-ip-address. Keys are saved in the SSH Keys tab of the console. If SSH stops responding, the KVM console opens the server's screen in your browser, even when the network is down.
Who applies Debian updates?
You do: the system is entirely under your control. Run apt update then apt upgrade, or configure unattended-upgrades to apply security fixes automatically. Take a snapshot before a major update so you can roll back.
How do I move from Debian 12 to Debian 13?
Follow the procedure in the Debian 13 release notes: bring Debian 12 up to date, replace bookworm with trixie in your APT sources, then run the upgrade with apt. Take a snapshot before you start. You can also reinstall the VPS with Debian 13 from the console: reinstalling erases all data on the disk.
Is my data backed up?
Not automatically. Add the daily VPS backup option (from €0.99 excl. VAT/month), restorable from the console, and take a snapshot before every risky change. Snapshots are for quick rollbacks; they do not replace a backup.
Who looks after the server once it is delivered?
Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Debian, its configuration, its updates and the software you install remain your responsibility; you keep root access at all times.
Can I switch operating system later?
Yes. From the console, reinstall the VPS with another Debian release or another available system. Reinstalling erases all data on the disk: back up your files first.
