Email sending is set up with your own provider
Ghost needs an email service that you provide. Transactional emails (invitations, member sign-in links, password resets) go out over SMTP: enter your credentials in the application's variables, from the console. Sending newsletters in bulk requires a Mailgun account, the only bulk email service Ghost supports, connected in Ghost Admin settings. Without Mailgun, Ghost works, but does not deliver your posts by email. The Mailgun and Stripe accounts are yours and billed by those services.

What is Ghost?
Ghost is an open source publishing platform published by the Ghost Foundation. It brings together an editor, a website, member management, newsletter sending and paid subscriptions, for independent blogs, newsletters and media.
Is Ghost free? Under which licence?
Yes. Ghost is released under the MIT licence, which allows use, modification and commercial use with no licence fee. The prices shown on this page are for the VPS; the third-party services you connect, such as Stripe or Mailgun, are billed by them.
Do I need an email service to send newsletters?
Yes. Ghost sends its transactional emails (invitations, member sign-in links) over SMTP: enter your provider's credentials in the application's variables, from the console. To send your posts as newsletters, Ghost requires a Mailgun account, the only bulk email service it supports, configured in Ghost Admin. Ghost advises against bulk sending over plain SMTP: the IP address would quickly be flagged as spam.
How do I collect paid subscriptions?
Connect your own Stripe account in Ghost Admin settings. Your subscribers' payments go straight to that account: Ghost takes no commission, only Stripe's fees apply.
How do I access Ghost after ordering?
Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Ghost and its MySQL database. The HTTPS address is shown in the console, in the application's Overview tab: add /ghost to it to open Ghost Admin and create the owner account.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. Add it in the application's Domains tab. If the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you; otherwise, the console shows you the IP address to point to. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.
What minimum configuration do I need?
One Click Apps requires at least 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk, with 1 GB of memory reserved for the system and the platform. Ghost itself asks for 1 GB of memory: with 2 GB, it fits on its own on the server. Choose 4 GB or more if you plan to deploy other applications alongside it.
Are my posts and members backed up?
The Ghost and MySQL data volumes are backed up every day at 3 am and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: they protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot. Ghost also lets you export content and members from Ghost Admin.
How do Ghost updates work?
The console detects new versions and shows an Update available banner. You start the update when you decide to: data volumes are kept. Take a backup before a major version change.
Who looks after Ghost once it is installed?
Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Ghost, its configuration, your themes, your content, your Stripe and Mailgun accounts and updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
