What a datacenter-hosted Home Assistant can do, and what it cannot
One Click Apps deploys Home Assistant Container, the official Home Assistant image running in a container, on a server in a datacenter in France. It is therefore not on your home network and has no Supervisor.
What works

- USB, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread or Bluetooth sticks and controllers: they must be plugged into the machine running Home Assistant

- Supervisor add-ons (apps): Home Assistant Container has no access to them
- Updates and backups managed by the Supervisor: here, they go through the console

What is Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is an open source home automation platform, a project of the Open Home Foundation. It brings your connected devices and services into one interface, with dashboards, an automation engine, the Assist assistant and mobile apps.
Which Home Assistant installation is deployed?
Home Assistant Container: the official Home Assistant image, running in a container. It is not Home Assistant OS: there is no Supervisor, so no Supervisor add-ons (apps), and no updates or backups managed by it. The One Click Apps console takes over updates and backups.
Can I use a Zigbee, Z-Wave or Bluetooth stick?
No. The server is in a datacenter: it has no access to the USB sticks, Zigbee, Z-Wave or Thread controllers or Bluetooth in your home, and it cannot see your local network. For those devices, Home Assistant has to run at home, next to them.
How do I connect the devices in my home?
Three options: integrations that go through the manufacturer's cloud; devices that publish to an MQTT broker the server can reach (Mosquitto is also in the One Click Apps catalog); or a VPN you set up between your home and the server, for example with WireGuard or Tailscale. Configuring them is up to you.
What is Home Assistant's license?
Home Assistant is released under the Apache 2.0 license. It is free, including for commercial use, and its source code is public. The prices on this page are for the VPS: Home Assistant costs nothing extra.
How do I access Home Assistant after ordering?
Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Home Assistant. Its HTTPS address shows in the console, in the application's Overview tab: open it and create the owner account on first sign-in. The time zone defaults to UTC: set your own in the TZ parameter at deployment, or later in the Variables tab.
Why at least 4 GB of RAM?
Home Assistant's documentation asks for at least 2 GB of RAM and 2 vCPUs for a virtual machine, with a 32 GB disk by default. One Click Apps also reserves 1 GB of memory for the system and the platform. The plans shown here therefore have at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of disk.
Is my configuration backed up?
Home Assistant's configuration volume is backed up every day at 3 a.m. and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: these backups protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot.
How is Home Assistant updated?
Home Assistant Container does not update itself. The deployed version is the one set by the One Click Apps catalog: every night, the platform compares your installation with the catalog and the published image, and the console shows an update when they differ. Nothing is applied without your action, and the configuration volume is kept.
Who looks after Home Assistant once it is installed?
Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Home Assistant, its integrations, your configuration and their updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
