Jellyfin is a free software media server: it organises your movies, shows and music and streams them to your devices, from the browser to the TV. It is an alternative to Plex and Emby, forked from Emby in 2018 when Emby went closed source.

Yes. Jellyfin is free software released under the GPL-2.0 licence, developed by a community of volunteers. It has no premium licence and no paid features. The prices on this page are those of the VPS.

Jellyfin recommends 8 GB of RAM, and 100 GB of SSD for the system, the application and the transcoding cache, not counting media. Since transcoding runs on the processor, we offer at least 4 vCPUs. Among our plans, the first ones that meet these conditions have 16 GB of RAM and 160 GB of disk: then choose according to the size of your library.

As deployed by One Click Apps, Jellyfin transcodes with the processor, and Jellyfin itself advises against a server without a GPU, because video transcoding on the processor is very demanding. Without a GPU, aim for direct play: files your devices play as they are need almost no computing. On the High performance range, the NVIDIA L4 GPU option (€0.70 excl. VAT/hour, no commitment) enables NVENC/NVDEC hardware transcoding, provided you install the NVIDIA driver and the NVIDIA Container Toolkit, then give the Jellyfin container access to the GPU yourself.

Jellyfin reads the files on the server. The deployment creates one volume for movies and one for shows, which Jellyfin sees as /data/movies and /data/tvshows: add these folders as libraries in the wizard, then copy your files into the volumes over SFTP or rsync, with the root access you keep on the VPS. Only stream media you hold the rights to.

The size of your library, plus the 100 GB Jellyfin recommends for the system, the application and the transcoding cache. The daily backups of the volumes, movies and shows included, are stored on the same disk: plan their space too. If you run out of room, move to a larger plan from the console.

Jellyfin's volumes, configuration, movies and shows included, are backed up every day at 3 am and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk. These backups protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server: add the VPS backup option (from €4.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot, and keep your original files elsewhere.

The deployment uses the Jellyfin image maintained by LinuxServer.io, at the version set by the One Click Apps catalogue. Every night the console checks whether this definition or the image has changed and shows a banner: you start the update when you decide to, and your media and configuration are kept. Take a snapshot before a major version change.

Yes, Jellyfin is published over HTTPS on the internet from the moment it is deployed. For your own domain, add it in the application's Domains tab: if the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you, otherwise the console shows the IP address to point it to. Bandwidth depends on the range: up to 300 Mbps on General Purpose, 1 Gbps on Performance and High performance.

Jellyfin is developed by its community. Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Jellyfin, its configuration, your accounts, your media and their updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
