Meilisearch VPSInstant search for your websites and apps

Meilisearch is a search engine published by a third party, Meili SAS. You send it your content as JSON documents, it indexes them and answers the searches of your website or app through a REST API, with typo tolerance, filters, facets and, if you connect a model, semantic search.

Meilisearch's Community Edition is open source under the MIT license and free, including for commercial use; it covers full-text, semantic and hybrid search. Some advanced features, such as sharding or snapshots streamed to S3, belong to the Enterprise Edition, under the Business Source License 1.1: using them in production requires a commercial agreement with Meili. The prices on this page are for the VPS.

Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Meilisearch. Its HTTPS address and the master key generated at deployment are shown in the console, in the application's Overview tab. Meilisearch is deployed in production mode: every route except /health requires a key, and the built-in search preview, which Meilisearch reserves for development mode, is disabled.

With the master key, create API keys with limited permissions: an admin key for your back end, a search-only key for the browser. Then use an official SDK (JavaScript, PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, Go, .NET, Dart) or the InstantSearch connector. Never publish the master key in your site's code.

No. Full-text search works right away; semantic and hybrid search need an embedder that you configure: a provider such as OpenAI or Hugging Face, a REST API, an Ollama server you connect, or your own vectors. No AI model is included.

Yes. Add it in the application's Domains tab. If the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you; otherwise, the console shows you the IP address to point to. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.

One Click Apps requires at least 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk, with 1 GB of memory reserved for the system and the platform. Meilisearch sets no minimum, but its documentation explains that speed depends on the ratio between RAM and database size, and recommends a disk of at least ten times the size of your raw data.

Meilisearch's data volume is backed up every day at 3 a.m. and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: this protects you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot.

Every night, the platform checks whether a new Meilisearch version has been published and the console lets you know. Nothing is updated without your action: you start the update from the console, and your data is kept. Before a major version change, take a backup and read the Meilisearch release notes.
