Plesk FAQ
What to know before you order, and right after.
What is Plesk?
Plesk is a commercial web hosting panel published by the company Plesk. From a web interface, you manage your domains, WordPress and PHP sites, email, databases, SSL certificates and backups. Plesk is not open source software: it runs under a licence.
Is the Plesk licence included?
No. The prices on this page are for the VPS, and OnetSolutions does not sell Plesk licences. The installation starts on a trial licence (Plesk advertises a 2-week full trial); a licence is required afterwards. You buy it from Plesk, as a Web Admin (10 domains), Web Pro (30 domains) or Web Host (unlimited domains) edition, at the prices published on plesk.com.
How do I log in to Plesk the first time?
Once the installation is done, connect to the server over SSH with your project key and run plesk login: it prints a one-time login link. Open it: your browser warns about a self-signed certificate until a domain name is configured, this is expected. Then follow the Plesk setup wizard.
How long does the installation take?
The Plesk installation starts right after the server is created, on Ubuntu 26.04, and usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. The console shows the progress; Plesk is then reachable on port 8443.
What is the minimum configuration?
For Linux, Plesk lists at least 1 GB of RAM plus 1 GB of swap and 20 GB of disk, and recommends more depending on the number of sites and their traffic. We install Plesk on plans with at least 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 40 GB of storage: only those are offered on this page.
Which components are installed?
We run the official Plesk one-click installer: it installs the latest stable Plesk release with its default set of components and applies the available patches. You then add or remove components and extensions from Plesk.
Can I migrate my sites from another host?
Yes. Plesk Migrator imports sites from another server you have access to, with no command line: Plesk, cPanel, DirectAdmin or Confixx among others. You can also move your files and databases by hand.
Are my sites backed up?
Daily backups available as an option from €1.99 excl. VAT/month, depending on the plan: they back up the whole VPS, Plesk and your sites included. Plesk also offers its own scheduled, incremental backups to remote storage. A first snapshot is free: take one before a major update.
Who maintains Plesk and the server?
Plesk is developed and updated by its publisher, Plesk; updates are applied from Plesk. The VPS is yours: you keep root SSH access and you run the system and the panel. Our 24/7 support helps with the server, the installation and the network; licence questions are handled by Plesk.
Plesk, cPanel or HestiaCP?
All three manage sites, email, databases and DNS. Plesk installs on Ubuntu 26.04 and includes WP Toolkit, Git, Node.js and Docker; cPanel & WHM installs on AlmaLinux 10 and needs at least 4 GB of RAM; HestiaCP, on Debian 13, is open source and free. Plesk and cPanel need a licence bought from their publisher.
