Rocket.Chat is published by a third party. Its code is released under the MIT license, except for the "ee" directories, which fall under the Rocket.Chat Enterprise license. A new workspace starts on the Starter edition, free for up to 50 users and registered with Rocket.Chat Cloud during the initial setup. Once the limit is reached, adding users is blocked: move to a paid Rocket.Chat plan, or to the Community edition (MIT), limited to 100 concurrent users, 10,000 push notifications per month and core messaging. The prices on this page are for the VPS.

Rocket.Chat FAQ
What to know before you order, and right after.
What is Rocket.Chat?
Rocket.Chat is team messaging software published by a third party: public and private channels, direct messages, threads, file sharing and desktop and mobile apps. Hosted on your VPS, it replaces a service like Slack or Microsoft Teams for your team's written conversations.
Is Rocket.Chat free?
A new workspace starts on the Starter edition, free for up to 50 users, including LDAP, SSO, two-factor authentication, end-to-end encryption and unlimited push notifications. Beyond 50 users, adding accounts is blocked: you need a paid Rocket.Chat plan, or the Community edition, limited to 100 concurrent users, 10,000 push notifications per month and core messaging. The prices shown on this page are for the VPS.
Under which license is Rocket.Chat released?
Rocket.Chat's code is released under the MIT license, except for the "ee" directories, which fall under the Rocket.Chat Enterprise license. The features in those directories are only available within the limits of the Starter edition or a paid plan.
Do I have to register the workspace with Rocket.Chat?
The setup wizard registers the workspace and the administrator's email address with Rocket.Chat Cloud. The Rocket.Chat push gateway, which relays notifications to the mobile apps, also requires a registered workspace. Your messages stay stored on your VPS.
How do I reach Rocket.Chat after ordering?
Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Rocket.Chat and MongoDB. The HTTPS address appears in the console, in the application's Overview tab: open it and follow the wizard to create the admin account.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. Add it in the application's Domains tab. If the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you; otherwise, the console shows the IP address to point to. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.
What minimum configuration do I need?
For the Starter edition, the Rocket.Chat documentation asks for 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of memory for Rocket.Chat, and the same again for MongoDB, with 20 GB and 10 GB of storage. As both run on the same server, we only offer plans with at least 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk, with 1 GB of memory reserved for the system and the One Click Apps platform.
Are my messages and files backed up?
Rocket.Chat data volumes are backed up every day at 03:00 and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: they protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €2.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot.
How is Rocket.Chat updated?
Every night, the console compares the deployed version with the one published upstream and shows a banner when an update is available. Nothing is updated without your action: you start the update from the console, and the data volumes are kept.
Who looks after Rocket.Chat once it is installed?
Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Rocket.Chat, its configuration, your users and their updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
