Online in three steps

Nothing to install: you order, Stirling-PDF is deployed on your server and published over HTTPS.

  1. 01

    Pick your VPS

Select a plan with at least 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk: Stirling-PDF is already ticked in the order.

  2. 02

    Stirling-PDF deploys itself

The One Click Apps platform installs on your VPS, then deploys Stirling-PDF and gives it an HTTPS address.

  3. 03

Secure it, then get to work

Open the HTTPS address, sign in with the initial administrator account and change its password right away. Your PDF tools are ready.

All of Stirling-PDF, on your server

Stirling-PDF's PDF toolbox, deployed with One Click Apps: you process your documents, the platform handles HTTPS, updates and backups.

  • 50+ PDF tools

Merge, split, rotate, reorder, extract or remove pages, add page numbers, overlay PDFs and embed attachments.

  • Conversion both ways

To PDF from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, images, HTML, Markdown or EML and MSG emails; from PDF to DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, images, CSV, HTML or PDF/A.

  • OCR

The Tesseract engine makes your scans searchable and selectable. The standard Docker image ships English, French, German, Portuguese and Simplified Chinese; more languages can be added.

  • Redaction

Automatic, by words or regular expressions, or manual in the viewer. Matching text is actually removed from the file, and the page can then be flattened to an image.

  • Signatures

Handwritten, typed or image signatures, and digital signatures with your own X.509 certificate (PKCS#12, PEM or JKS), available in every edition.

  • Compression

Nine compression levels, or a target file size, with grayscale and web linearisation options.

  • Passwords and permissions

Password-protect a PDF, remove a password, restrict printing or copying, and flatten completed forms.

  • Automate

Chain several operations into a saved workflow, then replay it on every batch of documents, or on a watched folder.

  • REST API and MCP server

Nearly every tool is available through the API, documented with Swagger on your instance and protected by a key. A built-in MCP server, off by default, opens them to compatible AI assistants.

  • PDF comparison

Compare two versions of a document word by word: deletions in red, additions in green. The comparison runs in your browser.

  • A translated interface

The interface is available in more than 40 languages.

Open core: what is free, and what is not

Stirling-PDF's core is released under the MIT licence, but some parts of the repository fall under a proprietary Stirling PDF, Inc. licence. The free self-hosted edition gives access to every PDF operation, for up to 5 users. Beyond 5 users, and for OAuth2 SSO, SAML, audit logs, signing with the server certificate or shared signing, you need a Team or Enterprise plan, bought directly from Stirling PDF, Inc. OnetSolutions does not sell these licences.

Keep sign-in enabled

Your instance is published over HTTPS on the internet. Stirling-PDF enables sign-in by default and creates an initial administrator account: change its password on your first visit. If the application opens without asking you to sign in, add the SECURITY_ENABLELOGIN=true variable in the console's Variables tab: without sign-in, anyone who knows the address can use your tools.

Managed from the console with One Click Apps

  • Automatic HTTPS

An HTTPS address from deployment, or your own domain with its Let's Encrypt certificate.

  • Logs and variables

Read Stirling-PDF's logs and edit its environment variables without opening a terminal.

  • Updates

The console detects new Stirling-PDF versions, and you start the update when you decide to.

  • Daily backups

Stirling-PDF's volumes (configuration, accounts, OCR languages, logs) backed up every day and kept for 7 days.

Stirling-PDF is published by Stirling PDF, Inc. Its core is released under the MIT licence; some advanced features fall under a proprietary licence and a paid plan. The prices shown on this page are for the VPS.

Stirling-PDF FAQ

What to know before you order, and right after.

What is Stirling-PDF?

Stirling-PDF is a web application for working with PDFs, published by Stirling PDF, Inc. It brings together 50+ tools (merge, split, convert, OCR, compress, sign, redact) and a REST API, and processes files on the server that hosts it.

Is Stirling-PDF free? Under which licence?

Stirling-PDF is open core. The repository's code is under the MIT licence, except for some directories placed under a proprietary Stirling PDF, Inc. licence. The free self-hosted edition covers every PDF operation for up to 5 users. Beyond that, or for SSO, SAML, audit logs, signing with the server certificate or shared signing, you need a Team or Enterprise plan, sold by Stirling PDF, Inc. OnetSolutions does not sell these licences: the prices on this page are for the VPS.

Is Stirling-PDF password-protected?

Stirling-PDF enables sign-in by default and creates an initial administrator account, described in its documentation: change its password on your first visit. If the application opens without asking you to sign in, add the SECURITY_ENABLELOGIN=true variable in the console's Variables tab; the application restarts with sign-in enabled. Without it, anyone who knows the address can use your tools.

Do my documents leave my server?

No. The files you upload are processed by your Stirling-PDF instance, on your VPS hosted in France, not by Stirling PDF, Inc.'s servers. Only PDF comparison runs directly in your browser.

How do I access Stirling-PDF after ordering?

Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Stirling-PDF. The HTTPS address is shown in the console, in the application's Overview tab: open it to sign in.

Can I use my own domain name?

Yes. Add it in the application's Domains tab. If the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you; otherwise, the console shows you the IP address to point to. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.

What minimum configuration do I need?

We offer Stirling-PDF from 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk: that is the configuration Stirling-PDF recommends for a small team (1 to 10 users), above the One Click Apps minimum of 2 GB, of which 1 GB is reserved for the system and the platform. PDF processing is memory-hungry, especially OCR and conversions: for 10 to 50 users, Stirling-PDF recommends 4 to 8 cores and 8 to 16 GB of RAM.

Are my settings backed up?

Stirling-PDF's volumes (configuration and accounts, OCR languages, custom files, logs) are backed up every day at 3 am and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: they protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot. Stirling-PDF is not meant to store your documents: keep your originals elsewhere.

How do Stirling-PDF updates work?

The console detects new versions and shows an Update available banner. You start the update when you decide to: data volumes are kept. Take a backup before a major version change.

Who looks after Stirling-PDF once it is installed?

Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Stirling-PDF, its configuration, its accounts, any Stirling PDF licence and updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
