Why Syncthing on an OnetSolutions VPS
Recent hardware, a fast network and protected data, under every one of your folders.
AMD EPYC processors and NVMe storage

OnetSolutions API
Backups and snapshots
Online in three steps
Nothing to install: you order, Syncthing is deployed on your server and its interface published over HTTPS.
- 01
Pick your VPS
Select a plan with at least 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk, with enough room for your folders: Syncthing is already ticked in the order.
- 02
Syncthing deploys itself
The One Click Apps platform installs on your VPS, then deploys Syncthing and publishes its web interface at an HTTPS address.
- 03
Secure it, then connect your devices
Open the interface, set a username and password, then exchange device IDs with your computers and share your folders.
All of Syncthing, on your server
Syncthing's continuous file synchronisation, deployed with One Click Apps: your VPS becomes an always-on device in your cluster, the platform handles HTTPS, updates and backups.
Real-time sync
Syncthing continuously synchronises folders between two or more devices: a change on one reaches the others.
No central server
Your files are only stored on your own devices, this VPS included. No third-party service hosts them.
End-to-end encrypted
All communication between devices goes over TLS, with perfect forward secrecy: eavesdropping on the traffic gives no access to your data.
Authenticated devices
Every device is identified by a cryptographic certificate, its device ID. Only the devices you have explicitly accepted can connect.
File versioning
Per folder, keep old versions of files changed or deleted from another device: trash can, simple, staggered or external script versioning.
Folder types
Send and receive, send only for a reference copy, or receive only for a mirror that never sends local changes back.
Ignored files
A .stignore file at the folder root excludes what should not be synced: caches, dependencies, temporary files.
Untrusted devices
Protect a folder with a password when sharing it: the receiving device only stores encrypted data. Syncthing still considers this feature beta.
Introducer
Mark a device as an introducer: it automatically adds the other devices that share the same folders.
Discovery and relays
Your devices find each other by their ID, with no IP address to configure. When no direct connection is possible, public relays pass the data along, still encrypted.
Web interface and REST API
Configure and monitor Syncthing from your browser, or drive it through its key-protected REST API.
Cross-platform
Syncthing runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris and other systems.
Protect the web interface
Syncthing's admin interface is published over HTTPS on the internet. Syncthing recommends setting a username and a strong password whenever the interface is reachable from the network: do it on your first visit, in the GUI settings.
The sync port
Devices exchange files on port 22000, over TCP and UDP, which the application publishes on your VPS. If your instance's firewall filters incoming connections, allow this port in the console's Firewall tab. Without a direct connection, Syncthing falls back to relays, which are much slower.
Managed from the console with One Click Apps
Automatic HTTPS
The web interface on an HTTPS address from deployment, or on your own domain with its Let's Encrypt certificate.
Logs and variables
Read Syncthing's logs and edit its environment variables without opening a terminal.
Updates
The console detects new Syncthing versions, and you start the update when you decide to.
Daily backups
Syncthing's configuration and data volumes backed up every day and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk.
Syncthing is open source software developed by its community and released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0): you can use it free of charge, including in a business. The prices shown on this page are for the VPS.
What you can do with Syncthing
An always-online device in your cluster: your computers stay in sync even when the others are switched off.
Connect all your computers
Your workstations sync with the VPS, which keeps the latest version available to the others, even when they are not on at the same time.

- macOS
- FreeBSD
Sync your notes
Note-taking apps that save Markdown files on disk sync like any other folder.

An encrypted remote copy
Share a folder with the VPS as an untrusted device: it only stores data encrypted with your password (beta feature).
A receive-only mirror
Set the folder to receive only on the VPS: it gets every change, and never sends a local change back.
Scripts and configuration
Keep scripts, configuration files and small projects identical across your machines, excluding caches and dependencies with .stignore.
- Bash
- Neovim
- Python
Share with a team
Share a folder with your colleagues' devices; make the VPS an introducer so every new device finds the others.

Syncthing FAQ
What to know before you order, and right after.
What is Syncthing?
Syncthing is a continuous file synchronisation program: it syncs folders between two or more computers, in real time, with no central server. On a VPS, it acts as an always-on device your other machines sync with.
Is Syncthing free? Under which licence?
Yes. Syncthing is open source and released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0), with no licence fee, including for business use. The prices shown on this page are for the VPS.
How do I secure the web interface?
Syncthing's interface is reachable over HTTPS from the internet. On your first visit, set a username and a strong password in the GUI settings, as Syncthing recommends for any interface reachable from the network. Your devices, for their part, can only connect if you have accepted them.
How do I connect my devices to the VPS?
Install Syncthing on your computers, then add the VPS's device ID on each of them, and the other way round. Then share your folders from the interface. Devices find each other by their ID; if your instance's firewall filters incoming connections, allow port 22000 over TCP and UDP for a direct connection, faster than a relay.
Does Syncthing replace a backup?
No. Syncing also spreads deletions and mistakes to every device. Turn on file versioning for important folders, and keep a real backup: the VPS backup option or a snapshot.
What minimum configuration do I need?
One Click Apps requires at least 2 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk, with 1 GB of memory reserved for the system and the platform. For Syncthing, the disk matters most: it must hold your synced folders, kept versions and the application's daily backups, stored on the same disk. Choose a size well above the volume of your data.
Where are my files stored on the VPS?
In the application's volumes, on the disk of your VPS hosted in France. Create your shared folders in the locations provided for data (/data1 and /data2) so they are kept across updates and included in the daily backups.
Is my data backed up?
Syncthing's configuration and data volumes are backed up every day at 3 am and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: they protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot.
How do Syncthing updates work?
The console detects new versions and shows an Update available banner. You start the update when you decide to: data volumes are kept. Take a backup before a major version change.
Who looks after Syncthing once it is installed?
Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Syncthing, its configuration, your devices, your folders and updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
