Your Ubuntu server in three steps

No ISO, no installer: you pick the release, the server is created with it, ready for SSH.

  1. 01

    Choose your VPS

Pick a size: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is preselected. Add your public SSH key to log in without a password.

  2. 02

    Ubuntu is installed

The server is created with the release you chose, your SSH key, its dedicated IPv4 address and its IPv6.

  3. 03

Open an SSH session as root, or the KVM console from your browser. The server is yours: apt, Docker, your services.

What Ubuntu Server brings to your VPS

Canonical's LTS distribution, with a maintenance schedule published in advance. You run the system, we provide the server.

  • Five years of fixes per LTS

Canonical ships an LTS release every two years, and each one gets 5 years of standard security maintenance.

  • Up to 15 years with Ubuntu Pro

Ubuntu Pro extends security fixes to 10 years (Expanded Security Maintenance), and to 15 years with the Legacy add-on.

  • apt and unattended-upgrades

Packages are installed and updated with apt from the Ubuntu archive; unattended-upgrades can apply security fixes on its own.

  • A recent base with 26.04

Linux kernel 7.0, Python 3.14, PHP 8.5, PostgreSQL 18, MySQL 8.4 LTS, OpenSSH 10.2 and GCC 15.2, according to Canonical's release notes.

  • Modernised security

In Ubuntu 26.04, sudo-rs, rewritten in Rust, becomes the default sudo, and OpenSSH supports post-quantum key exchange.

  • In-place upgrades

do-release-upgrade moves a server from one LTS to the next without reinstalling it. Take a snapshot before you run it.

Ubuntu VPS FAQ

What to know before you order, and right after.

Which Ubuntu release should I choose?

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for a new server: it is the most recent LTS, maintained by Canonical until May 2031. Pick 24.04 LTS (until May 2029) if your application was validated on it, and 22.04 LTS only if some software requires it: its standard maintenance ends in May 2027.

Do I have to pay for Ubuntu?

No. Ubuntu is free, with no licence to pay: the prices shown are for the VPS. Ubuntu Pro, which extends security fixes beyond the 5 years of standard maintenance, is a separate Canonical subscription, free for personal use on up to 5 machines. OnetSolutions does not sell it.

What is the minimum configuration?

Command-line Ubuntu Server runs on every plan, from 2 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM: your services decide the size. For a control panel, plan for 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk for Easypanel, 40 GB of disk for Plesk, and 2 vCPU, 2 GB and 30 GB for One Click Apps.

How do I connect to the server?

If you picked an SSH key at checkout, connect straight away with ssh root@your-ip-address. Keys are saved in the SSH Keys tab of the console. If SSH stops responding, the KVM console opens the server's screen in your browser, even when the network is down.

Who applies Ubuntu updates?

You do: the system is entirely under your control. Run apt update then apt upgrade, or configure unattended-upgrades to apply security fixes automatically. Take a snapshot before a major update so you can roll back.

How do I move from 22.04 or 24.04 to 26.04?

Two options. The do-release-upgrade command upgrades the system in place, packages and configuration included: take a snapshot before running it. Or reinstall the VPS with 26.04 from the console for a clean machine: reinstalling erases all data on the disk.

Is my data backed up?

Not automatically. Add the daily VPS backup option (from €0.99 excl. VAT/month), restorable from the console, and take a snapshot before every risky change. Snapshots are for quick rollbacks; they do not replace a backup.

Which control panels and applications can I install?

At checkout, Easypanel, Dokploy, Plesk and Cloudron are installed on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. One Click Apps can then be added from the console on an Ubuntu or Debian VPS. And as root, you can install anything else yourself.

Who looks after the server once it is delivered?

Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Ubuntu, its configuration, its updates and the software you install remain your responsibility; you keep root access at all times.

Can I switch operating system later?

Yes. From the console, reinstall the VPS with another Ubuntu release or another available system. Reinstalling erases all data on the disk: back up your files first.
