AFFiNE VPSDocs, whiteboard and databases in one workspace, on your server

AFFiNE is a workspace published by a third party, TOEVERYTHING PTE. LTD., that brings docs, whiteboard and databases together. Every doc can be shown as a page or as an Edgeless canvas, and blocks can become tables or Kanban boards. It presents itself as an alternative to Notion and Miro.

Partly. The editor, the apps and most of the code are under the MIT license; the server is released under the AFFiNE Enterprise Edition license, whose source code is available for review but which is not an open source license. Self-hosting is free, with at most 10 members per workspace; beyond that, AFFiNE sells a Team plan or an installable license. The prices on this page are for the VPS.

Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys AFFiNE, PostgreSQL and Redis. The HTTPS address is shown in the console. Open it right away on /admin: the first account created becomes the instance administrator, so don't leave this step to someone else.

Invitations and notifications are sent by email: first set up an SMTP server in the AFFiNE admin panel (Settings, Notification). The administrator can also import accounts from a CSV file, and enable sign-in with Google, GitHub or an OIDC provider.

Only with your own key. Once AI is enabled in the server configuration file, each workspace can store an OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or FAL key. No model is included, and AFFiNE needs no GPU: requests go to the provider you choose.

Yes. Add it in the application's Domains tab. If the DNS zone is managed at OnetSolutions, the A record is created for you; otherwise, the console shows you the IP address to point to. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically. Choose your domain before inviting your team and sharing links.

AFFiNE's documentation recommends 2 GB of RAM for basic use and 4 GB as soon as docs exceed 10,000 words. On your VPS, AFFiNE runs alongside PostgreSQL and Redis, and One Click Apps reserves 1 GB for the system and the platform: so we offer AFFiNE from 4 GB. AFFiNE also recommends at least 4 cores, as its responsiveness depends on the processor: for a team, prefer a plan with 4 vCPU.

AFFiNE's volumes (PostgreSQL database, uploaded files, configuration and Redis) are backed up every day at 3 a.m. and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: this protects you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot, and keep a database export off the server, as AFFiNE recommends.

Every night, the platform checks whether a new AFFiNE image has been published and the console lets you know. Nothing is updated without your action: you start the update from the console, a migration service prepares the database, and your data is kept. Before that, take a backup and read the AFFiNE release notes.

Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. AFFiNE, its configuration, your workspaces and their updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
