Only the website chat widget works as soon as Chatwoot is deployed. Every other channel is set up inside Chatwoot and often needs an account with the provider: a Meta app for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, a Telegram bot, a Twilio account for SMS, a mailbox with its IMAP and SMTP credentials. For Chatwoot to send emails (agent invitations, notifications, replies), also fill in its SMTP variables.

What to know before you order, and right after.

What is Chatwoot?

Chatwoot is a customer support platform published by a third party, which presents itself as an alternative to Intercom and Zendesk. It brings conversations from your website chat, email and messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram into a shared inbox, with a help center, automations and reports.

Is Chatwoot open source and free?

Mostly, yes: Chatwoot's code is released under the MIT licence, except for the enterprise/ folder of its repository, which is covered by a separate licence. The Community edition deployed here is free, with no per-agent licence. Captain (the AI features), voice calls, custom branding, custom roles, agent capacity, SSO/SAML and SLAs belong to Chatwoot's paid plans and are not included. The prices on this page are for the VPS.

Which channels work right after installation?

The website chat widget is available straight away: create the inbox in Chatwoot and paste the script on your site. The other channels are set up one by one and often need an account with the provider: a Meta app for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, a Telegram bot, a Twilio account for SMS, the IMAP and SMTP credentials of your mailbox. Those accounts and any fees they carry are not provided by OnetSolutions.

How do I access Chatwoot after ordering?

Once the VPS is created, the One Click Apps platform installs and then deploys Chatwoot. Its HTTPS address appears in the console, in the application's Overview tab. On your first visit, Chatwoot asks you to create the administrator account; public sign-up is then disabled and you invite your agents from Chatwoot.

Do I need to set up outgoing email?

Yes, if you want Chatwoot to send emails: agent invitations, notifications, password resets or replies on the email channel. Fill in the application's SMTP variables (server, port, credentials, sender address) in the console's Variables tab; the application restarts to apply them.

What minimum configuration do I need?

Chatwoot's documentation requires at least 4 GB of RAM and recommends 4 cores, for around 10,000 conversations a day. Every plan on this page has at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk. One Click Apps reserves 1 GB of memory for the system and the platform: for a busy team or several applications on the same server, choose 8 GB or more.

Where are my customers' conversations stored?

On your VPS, hosted in a datacenter in France: Chatwoot's PostgreSQL database and the attachments, which are stored on the server's disk by default. Messages that go through an external channel, such as WhatsApp or Messenger, also pass through that provider's servers.

Are my conversations backed up?

Chatwoot's data volumes (database, attachments, Redis) are backed up every day at 3 am and kept for 7 days, on the VPS disk: they protect you from a mistake in the application, not from losing the server. For that, add the VPS backup option (from €1.99 excl. VAT/month) or take a snapshot.

How do I update Chatwoot?

Every night, the console compares your installation with the latest published version. When an update is available, a banner says so on the application page: you run it when you decide to, and the data is kept. Take a backup before a major version change.

Who looks after Chatwoot once it is installed?

Our support covers the VPS: the server, its network, its storage and its availability. Chatwoot, its configuration, your channels, your data and their updates remain your responsibility: the console gives you the tools to manage them, and you keep root access to the server.
